Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a CD Recorder to make CDs?
YES. If you don't have one yet you are missing out on all the
fun. They start at only $90 at any computer store, so go get one today!
Can I stay connected to the Internet while burning?
Under most cases, YES! If you have a fast system you should be
able to stay on the net while an Applet makes a CD. You can even
surf if you don't mind an occasional slow response... Recording CDs demands a
lot out of a system in terms of resources, CPU, RAM, hard drive activity
etc. So its best not to launch additional programs once recording has
begun.
My newly burned audio CD plays fine in my computer, but not in my car
stereo. Why?
Some older CD players can't read CD-RW (Rewritable) discs, but they
can read CD-R (Recordable but not Rewritable) discs. Check and see if you
used a CD-RW, and try burning again onto a CD-R. (It won't make any
difference what software you use to burn it with. The long story is that CD-RW
blanks have lower reflectivity than CD-R or silver discs. These new CD-RW discs
where introduced around 1998 or so. CD players older than this can't play the
CD-RWs because the laser reflection is so dim. Most newer players, however, are
made to accepts all kinds of discs. )
What are the system requirements to record CD's?
- - Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000 or Windows XP
- - 64 Megs of RAM
- - 50 Megs of free HD space
- - A "modern" CD recorder known to work with other software
- - Quality blank CD-R or CD-RW media
Which CD Recorders does the software work with?
Net-Burner software works with all CD Recorders except for "legacy" (very
old 1x) burners (such as Sony 9xx series) and a few newly released drives
(we update as soon as possible). Since our software is free to demo, and
you can make a CD right from our web page, please try burning a CD. Chipmunks
If you burn some MP3 files that sound like they are double speed you are
using an old version of our software. It is caused by them being encoded at the
slow 22khz setting or in Mono rather than the standard 44khz or 48khz Stereo MP3
encoding frequencies. Do I need a blank CD or can I add
more to a partial one?
The feature called Multisession is not supported since it would detract from
our goal of simple operation.
Does Net-Burner change any system files?
NO. Net-Burner software products do not make any changes and do
not put any files in your system folder. It also does not make you
reboot. Think of it as computer-friendly software!
Can I dual-boot without reinstalling?
Yes, however there are 2 areas to check- First, you will have to
re-enter your registration code. Second, if one of the OS's is NT, 2000,
or XP, and the other is 95 or 98, you may get the message that no CD recorder
was found. In that case check for a file called wnaspi32.dll and
rename it wnaspi32.old.
